It has been a tough start to the season for Tottenham’s Dele Alli, and it’s taken the fans in the Transfer Tavern by surprise…
The Englishman was a standout player for the Lilywhites last term, cementing his place as one of Europe’s most talented midfielders. Providing assists, goals and incredible technical ability, the attacking midfielder reached another level last term.
However, his form this season has been a shadow of what we’ve become used to. He hasn’t been nearly as prolific this term, whilst he has also been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons too.
It’s his form on the pitch that is drawing the ire of the Tottenham fans, though, and it appears as though a majority of them want Mauricio Pochettino to take action. Our landlord recently polled fans on whether the Englishman should be dropped given his poor form, and 57% of supporters responded with a resounding yes.
Though support is clearly divided, the majority of fans are clearly behind such a decision, and given how good he was last term, that’s a huge surprise. He’s still a fan favourite, of course, but performances on the pitch are what really matter.
He’s rated at £40.5 million by Transfer Markt, which is probably slightly harsh, and he’s clearly one of Tottenham’s best players, but his form has been poor lately, so perhaps a spell on the sidelines could be what he needs.
With the likes of Son Heung-min and Fernando Llorente waiting in the wings, Pochettino has a fair few options if he wants to change his attack up.
