The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to beat Arsenal this evening. The two sides look likely to be amongst the battlers for fourth spot in the Premier League, and so this game could have big ramifications for the rest of the season.
More than anything, though, it will be a big test of Liverpool’s quality. They’ve had a tough season at points, and whilst Jurgen Klopp has turned his team around in recent weeks, they are yet to really prove themselves against many of the top sides in the Premier League.
The German’s team selection this evening, then, will be key. He’ll need to get it right, as Arsenal could otherwise punish his mistakes.
Much of the team picks itself, but one area that is certainly up for debate is with regards to who Klopp selects up-front. Roberto Firmino has been his option of choice for much of the campaign, but Daniel Sturridge started against Chelsea a few weeks ago, and so he’s certainly in the mix too.
However, this isn’t something that fans want to see it seems, at least according to a recent poll. Questioned on whether Sturridge should start tonight, 62% of Liverpool fans responded with a firm no, with just 38% of fans in favour of the move.
To be honest, that’s no real surprise. Sturridge has had a tough season, and in truth, he’s had a difficult year or so. Unable to recover his form after numerous spells out through injury, the Englishman clearly has a long way to go, and he isn’t being trusted to lead the line by the Anfield faithful.
The final decision, of course, will lie with the boss – but the Liverpool fans have had their say.
