It’s going to be a very interesting few weeks for the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern. Their side has had a mixed first-half of the season, with results often not going their way, but they have a lot still to fight for. Particularly with regards to the Champions League, the 2017/18 campaign still has a lot of scope for success for Mauricio Pochettino.
That being said, it’s clear that the team needs improvement, and so in January, Pochettino would be wise to seek investment in his squad. It’s never easy to bring in big names mid-way through the season, but one player that could certainly be attainable is Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
It would be strange, seeing a player move from Man Utd to Spurs, but it’s a move that does make a lot of sense given the context. Mkhitaryan has looked good for much of the campaign, but has found himself out of favour under Jose Mourinho in recent weeks. Often thrust from first-team proceedings entirely, the Armenian is clearly talented enough to play every week, and he’d no doubt get that chance at Tottenham.
Pochettino lacks attacking depth at present, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen playing every week despite not playing particularly well. With 5 assists so far this season, Mkhitaryan’s campaign has been massively undervalued by Mourinho.
Given his lack of action in recent weeks, Mourinho could perhaps be willing to cash in on the £31.5 million-rated attacking midfielder, if the right offer comes in, and Pochettino would be wise to launch a move. This is something that fans want to see it seems, with 63% of recently polled supporters voting in favour of a move for the attacker.
Given his proven Premier League quality, it’s no real surprise, with the former Borussia Dortmund winger still clearly impressing Spurs fans.
