Revealed: 64% of polled Liverpool fans think midfielder is Klopp’s most under-appreciated player

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing their side’s squad during the off-season. It’s been a brilliant couple of years for the Reds, and it’s clear that the historic team are on their way back up the table.

With no English football on at the moment, reflection on Liverpool’s team ahead of the new season makes sense, and we recently discussed the under-rated and under-appreciated members of the Liverpool squad. Roberto Firmino is a player that is typically defined by that sentiment, with the attacker far more involved in link-up play than he is with scoring goals – and so he often hasn’t had the praises that he deserves.

However, we made the case that James Milner, instead, was Liverpool’s most underrated. He’s a bit of an unsung hero on the field, and when he’s not playing, the leadership that he brings is crucial.

It seems that Liverpool fans agree, too, as 64% of those polled agreed that Milner should be getting more praise ahead of Firmino.

Firmino has begun to get a lot more recognition over the last year, and so that likely played a part in their sentiments.

However, it’s also notable that though Milner has been sensational over the last two years, the Englishman is still not exactly viewed as indispensable at Anfield. He may find himself out of the team next season, owing to the signings of Fabinho and Naby Keita, and that will be a shame.

He deserves far more credit.
