The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their side will go on a winning run in 2018. They’re a fair way behind Man City in first place, and whilst their title dreams may be over as a result, a solid run in the second-half of the season could help them in their quest to return to the top four.
It’s certainly not an outrageous goal, though Arsene Wenger will have to put a lot of things into the right place in order to ensure that it happens.
One thing that is certainly going to put him under the microscope for the rest of the season is his team selection. The Frenchman has tended to not rotate all that much this term, with several players – like Alexandre Lacazette, Petr Cech and Alexis Sanchez – typically keeping them their place throughout the campaign.
It seems that in the second-half of the season, though, Arsenal fans want to see another player join that list of near ever-presents. Our landlord recently ran a poll on Danny Welbeck discussing the prospect of him starting every single week, given his recent fine form, and it’s fair to say that this is something that a lot of fans want to see.
A whopping 67% of polled fans have suggested that they want to see Welbeck in the starting XI every week, and it’s fairly easy to see why.
When he plays he offers something that most of Arsenal’s other attacks don’t. He offers hard-work, creativity, goals, technical brilliance. Fitness has been a problem for him in recent months, but he looks to have gotten over that hump, and it appears as though the Arsenal faithful are ready for him to take his career to the next level.
