Revealed: 70% of Liverpool fans don’t want 29-year-old to make his first start of the season against Southampton

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Adam Lallana to return to action. The Englishman has yet to make a Premier League start this season owing to an injury sustained back in August, but that could change this weekend. He’s reportedly back in training ahead of the game, and thus he could be in contention to feature.

However, despite the love for Lallana, it doesn’t seem as though many Liverpool fans want to see him start this weekend against Southampton, at least according to a recent poll run by our landlord. When questioned on whether he should start the game, a whopping 70% of fans responded with a resounding no, with just 30% calling for him to return to the fold immediately.

There could be a few reasons for this, with perhaps the most significant and obvious one being his simple lack of match fitness. He’s back fit and not injured anymore, sure, but he hasn’t played a competitive game all season, and so it’s going to take him some time to get back to his best. Klopp won’t want to risk putting him in from the start in case he suffers a recurrence of said injury.

It would also risk upsetting the rest of the squad were he to be immediately put back into the fold. Klopp’s squad is big, and so it wouldn’t send a very good message to the other midfielders if Lallana is immediately put back in.

It remains to be seen whether the German will opt to bring the Englishman straight back into the fold, but the Liverpool faithful have had their say.
