The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern were expecting big things from Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season, especially after performing so well last term.
Ibrahimovic certainly deserved an extended spell in Manchester. Clearly a favourite of Mourinho, the Swede was picked regularly last term and rewarded his manager with a flurry of excellent performances.
However, the same cannot be said of this season. Given a new deal by Mourinho and Man Utd, the Swede has failed to repeat his heroics from last term.
Now, the tide appears to have turned, and our resident Red Devils appear to be ready for him to move on.
When questioned on that topic, a whopping 76% of fans responded saying that it’s time for him to leave the club, with just 24% of fans seemingly keen to keep him around.
It’s no real surprise, of course. He’s now in his mid-30s, whilst Romelu Luakku has stolen much of the limelight going forward. He’s yet to score a goal in the Premier League for the club, and when he has played he has looked off the pace.
Of course, some of that can be put down to a lack of match fitness, but Man Utd are set to embark on a vital second-half of the season, and they can’t afford to have any passengers. It seems as though fans would rather a fresh face come in, and they’d like to see Zlatan go the other way.
It will likely pain Mourinho, as he is clearly a big fan of the attacker, but it might just be best for business.
