Revealed: 78% of Man City fans think 36-year-old is Guardiola’s perfect successor

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life with Pep Guardiola as their manager. The Spaniard, who has managed the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona, had a slow start to life in Manchester, but over the last twelve months, he has really taken them to the next level.

Their play style has been fantastic, their match results have been incredible, and their trophy wins have been extraordinary. Their campaign this year will arguably go down as one of the best the Premier League has ever seen.

However, Guardiola’s never been a manager that hangs around for very long. Sure, he signed a new contract, but that doesn’t mean that he’ll be at the Etihad in five or ten years – even if he continues to dominate.

Clearly, then, it makes sense to consider who will eventually replace him, and one genuine option for Man City is Mikel Arteta. The former Arsenal midfielder has played a key role behind the scenes at the Etihad this season, and he’s surely having a remarkable education under the tutelage of Guardiola.

It’s something that Man City fans are behind, it seems, at least according to a recent poll.

We recently asked Man City fans whether Arteta should be viewed as the successor to Guardiola, and a whopping 78% of Man City fans responded with a resounding yes.

Guardiola’s effect on players is well documented, but the knowledge that coaches must get from him on a day to day basis is likely just as great, and so in Arteta, Man City could genuinely have the heir apparent to the former Barcelona man.

Whether the Spaniard makes the step up with Man City or, indeed, with any other club remains to be seen – but it’s a move that fans would clearly be behind.
