The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting nothing but a win against AC Milan on Thursday. The Gunners have really struggled in the Premier League this season, with their hopes of a top-four finish in the English top flight now looking increasingly slim.
As a result, winning the Europa League could be their only route into the Champions League ahead of next season, and so Wenger will be under a lot of pressure to win against the Italian side.
He’ll need to get his team selection spot on, though, and given that they lost to Brighton at the weekend, a few changes could be needed.
One player that Arsenal fans seemingly want to see dropped, at least according to a recent poll ran by our landlord, is Alex Iwobi. Indeed, when questioned on that topic, a whopping 83% of Arsenal fans have revealed their desire to see the Nigerian dropped from the first team this weekend.
It’s no real surprise, of course. The Nigerian international looked poor in Arsenal’s last game against Brighton, by offering next to nothing in the attack, but his problems go far beyond that. He has, in actual fact, been really disappointing throughout the entire season – picking up just 2 goals and 3 assists in the league thus far.
Rated at £9 million by Transfer Markt, it’s tough to pinpoint Iwobi’s role in this squad. When he does play, he rarely impresses, but Arsene Wenger often chooses to give him a chance – regardless of his poor form.
With such high expectations, Wenger can’t afford any stragglers against Milan, and so he would be wise to pick a team that can guarantee a strong performance. Unfortunately for Iwobi, recent form dictates that he doesn’t fall under that banner.
