The Toon Army here in the Tavern continue to stress over their lack of Premier League quality, having dropped into potential relegation trouble. Rafa Benitez and his side have been abysmal in recent times, as they continue to plummet down the League table due to a run that’s seen them go without a win in 6. With the surrounding pack set to bolster their chances of survival come January, it’s yet to be seen as to whether Benitez will be able to replicate this.
There was a sense of excitement filling the air here in the Tavern when news of the Benitez demands filtered in, as the manager highlighted the importance of signing a playmaker, striker and a left-back after the lack of goals up-front and defensive woes have caused concerns for the club, yet with the recent progressions in the sale saga it looks as if these reports are set to be dismissed, after potential buyer Amanda Staveley coming to a stalemate with the stubborn Mike Ashley.
Unsurprisingly, Newcastle fans here in the pub supported the statement made by the gaffer, due to the need for improvement in numerous positions. The Landlord here in the Tavern recently polled which position needed the most improvement in, with an astounding 84% of fans voting in favour of a striker.
This comes as no surprise at all, with the current strikers not even making up half of the goals scored for the club this season, due to the highest-scoring striker equaling the record with a defender on a measly 2 goals. That just goes to highlight the need for improvement, because after all, if you don’t score, then you can’t win.
So, with them lacking a prolific striker, the January transfer window has to create the opportunity for acquiring a number 9.
