The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to pick up another win this weekend. The Reds have had a tough season so far, but having secured back-to-back wins against both Huddersfield and Maribor, things are beginning to look up. Their next game, though, will not be easy – with a trip to the London Stadium to face West Ham on the cards.
If Klopp wants to pick up another three points he simply must place an added emphasis on his team selection. He has got it wrong over the last few weeks, and so he can’t afford to make the same mistakes. One player that is certainly in with a shout of starting the game is Daniel Sturridge. He bagged a double against Maribor, and his natural goalscoring instinct is far greater than anyone else’s in the Liverpool first team.
It seems that his performance in mid-week was enough for the fans to be convinced, with a recent poll ran by our landlord – debating whether he should start this weekend – getting a pretty unanimous response. According to that poll, a whopping 86% of Liverpool fans want Sturridge to start the game, with that likely meaning Roberto Firmino will drop to the bench.
In truth, if Sturridge was always fit and available, he’d likely start every week, and that’s likely the reason why he hasn’t had much of a chance in recent weeks and months. Hopefully that will change this weekend, then, at least from the perspective of the Liverpool faithful.
