Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing reports that one of their attacking contingent could have left in the summer and what it would have meant for the Gunners season.
The Daily Star quotes Arsene Wenger as revealing several loan offers for Joel Campbell were rejected in the summer, as Campbell is valued highly by the long-serving French manager.
Campbell has become a crucial part of the Arsenal squad plagued by injuries this season, as absences for Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Campbell have left the Costa Rican international as a regular start.
The 23-year-old struggled initially but scored his first Premier League goal against Swansea City last month and impressed in the recent Champions League victory over Dinamo Zagreb.
“This season I did not want to give him out because he has a genuine team attitude and he is a fighter. We had offers to loan him out but I am very keen to keep him here.”
Arsenal fans at the bar weren’t initially convinced that Campbell was good enough for their squad but believe he has shown tremendous improvements so far this season and they’re backing him to to continue his development.
