Revealed: Man United saw £23m bid rejected for long-term target

GaitanManchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been giving another reason to let out a massive groan today, after their game of darts was interrupted by reports of a failed transfer swoop in January.

TalkSport state that United saw a £23m bid for Nicolas Gaitan rejected by Benfica in January, with the Red Devils once again failing to land their long-term Argentine target.

United’s latest failure in the transfer market has been revealed by an unlikely source, as the coach of U.A.E side Al Ahli revealed they trumped the Red Devils in a swoop for the Benfica star.

“We made an offer of €35m, which Benfica accepted, since it was higher than the €30m offered by Manchester United.”

However, the Arab outfit also failed to land their man as Gaitan rejected a move to the Middle East in order to stay with Benfica.

The 27-year-old could be on the move come the summer though, as it’s stated he’s holding out for a transfer to Atletico Madrid as he wants to link-up with compatriot Diego Simeone.

United fans, would your season be different if you landed Gaitan?
