Wolves held Everton to a 2-2 draw in their opening game of the Premier League season.

The Toffees took an early lead through new signing Richarlison who found the back of the net following some poor defending from a set-piece. Everton were cruising before a poor touch from Phil Jagielka forced the defender to make a last-ditch tackle; which was deemed to be dangerous, and he was given his marching orders. Ruben Neves netted the resulting free-kick to level proceedings.

What came next was a moment of pure brilliance from Everton’s record-signing. The Brazilian jinked in from the left before curling a wonderful low finish into the back of the net leaving Rui Patricio stranded. A late header from Raul Jimenez rescued a point for the Premier League newcomers.

Despite the result, the performance of Richarlison will have Everton fans licking their lips. The £50m signing was a constant threat and linked up well with Leighton Baines on the left flank. His work-rate and tenacity were a joy to behold.

As well as taking his goals well, the former Watford man won three out of four tackles as well as recovering the ball six times and ended his debut with 100% chance conversion rate. Despite his barren streak in front of goal last season, it seems reuniting with Marco Silva is the catalyst for his revival.

Many fans baulked at the price Everton paid to bring him to Goodison Park. If his impressive performances continue, the 21-year-old may prove to be a bargain.
