The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the shocking stat that their 26-year-old midfielder, Jonjo Shelvey, is yet to receive a booking in 2018. The central midfielder has developed a reputation throughout his career for being a hot head and he hasn’t been averse to a red card throughout his career, picking up two this season alone.

According to The Sun, Jonjo Shelvey has been cast aside by Gareth Southgate, with the England gaffer set to leave him out of his 23-man squad travelling to Russia this summer because of the ex-Liverpool man’s poor work ethic and disciplinary record. Shelvey has made 30 appearances this season for the Magpies, despite missing four games through suspension from his two dismissals, and has been very impressive over the last few months.
The recent form of Shelvey has caused a number of our resident Geordies to call for him to be in Southgate’s England squad, despite his lack of experience at international level having played just six games for England, with the last of those coming against France in October 2015. Whilst Shelvey isn’t every fans’ first choice midfielder, the recent injury to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has given fresh hopes to the likes of Shelvey, Lewis Cook and Jake Livermore of travelling to their first World Cup.

People say his temperament will hinder his chances of getting into the World Cup squad, but he hasn't received a card this year… Definitely deserves a call up in my opinion!!

Ridiculous if he don’t get picked, People try the disciplinary issue when that’s not the case, Not many players can pass the ball like he can.
