The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are raising a glass to Spanish striker Alvaro Morata this evening, with the forward on the verge of finalising his move to the capital.
With Morata now in London the Blues fans at the bar, as much as they would have loved to see it, are admitting that the recent rumours linking Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero to Stamford Bridge will come to nothing.
The future off the 28-year-old, who fell down the pecking order under manager Pep Guardiola at times last season, was put to the former Barcelona boss in a press conference ahead of the pre-season Manchester derby against United in Houston this week.
When asked about the rumours surrounding Aguero and Chelsea, the Spaniard simply replied:
“You know my opinion about Sergio,
“He is our player and he will remain here.”
With Morata now almost done there is no real need for Antonio Conte to be bringing in another big money striker, regardless as to the future of last season’s top scorer, Diego Costa, who is being linked with a move back to his former club, Atletico Madrid.
Aguero will be looking to put in a strong showing in the early stages of the season, having faced stiff competition from Gabriel Jesus for his position last term.
Chelsea fans, we want to hear from you! Was Aguero ever really a target for Conte? Let us know…
