It has only been a couple of days here at the Football Transfer Tavern since we were discussing the potential summer clear out at Liverpool and now Goal.com claim that not only will Brendan Rodgers be preparing for that but he is also worried about bids for some of his key personnel too.
The manager has acknowledged that he will have to brace himself to keep hold of his top players – and as we all know Luis Suarez is top of that list. The forward may be controversial but he is a top, top player and is firmly on the radar of a host of clubs including Bayern Munich. Pep Guardiola has decided that the forward is the number one target for the Bavarian giants and is readying a bid.
Rodgers told the Daily Mirror that: “I am a realist. We’ve got some outstanding players here who other clubs will show interest in. But I can only speak from my experience of working with the players here and I think they are all happy.”
Clearly Liverpool are going to have to make some improvements if they wish to keep hold of players like Suarez and obtaining Champions League football is a must, although the prospect looks unlikely at present, barring a collapse from the likes of Spurs and Arsenal above them. The Reds currently sit ninth and are a whopping 12 points away from the top four.
Is it a simple case of no Champions League football, no Suarez? Let us know your thoughts below.
