When news emerged here at the Football Transfer Tavern that Jamie Carragher was set to retire at the end of the season it became clear that Brendan Rodgers needed to find a suitable replacement and the Daily Mail feel they have found one for the Reds stalwart.
The Liverpool manager has already persuaded the centre back to stay for this season and Carragher feels that it is time for a change and a potential move into punditry this coming campaign. Whilst Liverpool fans are still digesting this news and are saddened by the prospect, Rodgers knows that a replacement needs to be found and has been to Rotterdam to personally scout Stefan de Vrij.
The Dutch international is already skipper of Feyenoord and is instrumental in the side’s success including their 2-1 win over PSV Eindhoven at the weekend. Not to mention the fact that at the tender age of 21 the player is young enough to improve ahead of a potentially glittering career in the game.
With 18 months left on his current contract, Rodgers feels that he would be able to land the player for a reasonable fee and given that he has been scouting de Vrij for months now it seems that a move is certainly on the cards.
