Brendan Rodgers seems to be doing his Christmas shopping a little early this year after being spotted in Reading and after his brace against rivals Everton, Adam le Fondre could be at the top of Rodgers wish list.
Rodgers confirmed in an interview with Stan Collymore on Talksport that he will be bringing in one or two new signings and will certainly be reinforcing the front line.
Liverpool have been left very short in the striking department after Carroll’s loan deal to West Ham and with Borini out until the new year they’re certainly in the market for a new forward. Le Fondre who joined Reading in 2011 could be a short-term solution to the problem however the striker only signed new three-year deal with the Hoops in October.
This ultimately could inflate the price of 25 year old le Fondre who is currently only valued at just over £1million which might seem like a fair price for a hardworking, enthusiastic striker.
However, with better options out there on the market like Demba Ba at £7m and Wilfred Zaha gathering interest from big clubs their could be a dilemma for Rodgers. The Liverpool boss may also be looking to strengthen their defence with Reading centre back, Alex Pearce, according to the Daily Mirror.
Rodgers has previously coached Pearce at reading where he made him a vice captain and it seems he would be eager to be reunited with the commanding centre back. The Republic of Ireland international could be a natural replacement for the ageing Jamie Carragher who turns 35 in January.
Pearce has already turned down a new contract from Reading however his current boss, Brian McDermott is confident that the defender will sign a new deal. In the Reading post he said: “We had a good talk on Saturday. He wants to sign and I want him to sign.”
I would be surprised though if Pearce did move to Liverpool, he would end up falling even further down the pecking order, with Agger, Skrtel and Kelly all ahead of him.
