Roma eying January swoop for out of favour Liverpool man

SakhoLiverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been enjoying some mulled wine as they discuss their January plans but, rather than exciting new arrivals, the topic of agenda today concerns the possibility of a high-profile exit.

Talksport, reporting via Corriere Dello Sport, state that Serie A title chasers Roma have targeted a January swoop for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho in January.

Sakho, formerly of Paris Saint-Germain, has found playing time limited under Jurgen Klopp and sits behind Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel in the pecking order at Anfield. However, a recent injury to Lovren may have given Sakho his chance.

Despite that, it’s claimed Sakho is considering his future on Merseyside and would be open to a transfer to Italy.

Klopp isn’t looking for wholesale changes in the new year and any chance of Sakho leaving may depend on whether a replacement can be found, as Liverpool will want to keep a competitive squad as they look to fulfil their goals.

Liverpool currently sit five points behind the top-four in the Premier League and are in the semi-finals of the League Cup and the knockout stages of the Europa League, whilst they also have an FA Cup campaign to prepare for in January.
