Roma prepare swoop for Arsenal’s international defender

Debuchy.jpgArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have made it quite clear they want plenty of incoming business this January, as they enjoy a game of pool at the bar, but it seems the most likely transfer at this time is an outgoing one.

Football Italia state that Serie A giants Roma are in the market to find a replacement for the raging Douglas Maicon and have identified Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy as the ideal target.

Debuchy, who has a wealth of experience having starred with Lille and Newcastle United in the past, is keen to move on from Arsenal this month to earn regular first-team football as he aims to earn a spot in France’s European Championship squad.

Having arrived in North London after the 2014 World Cup, as a replacement for compatriot Bacary Sagna, Debuchy has struggled with fitness and has seen Hector Bellerin rise to form in his absence, with the young Spaniard become the Gunners first-choice right-back.

Debuchy previously spoke to L’Equipe about the possibility of leaving Arsenal, hinting that ideal circumstances would see him return to France.

“I’ll look at the offers to move. I love England and the football here, but why not return to France. In the summer Wenger told me we’d talk if I was not happy with my situation in December. It is now December. I’m waiting to talk to the boss.”

Arsenal fans, would offloading Debuchy in January be the wrong call? Let us know in the comments below!
