The West Ham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are delighted to have picked up four points from their two midweek games. It has lifted them out of the relegation zone and now David Moyes’ side are looking upwards as they try to continue their ascent up the Premier League table.
But the Hammers have had problems in the middle of the park for a while now. After failing to land William Carvalho in the summer transfer window, it is no secret that West Ham will be searching for a central midfielder this January.
So far in the window, they have been linked with the likes of Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen, Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey, Steven N’Zonzi of Sevilla and Harry Arter of Bournemouth among others. But should they consider waiting until the summer before making a bid for a Chelsea player.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek could well be available for a permanent transfer in the summer after Chelsea snapped up Ross Barkley from Everton. Loftus-Cheek is currently on loan at Crystal Palace and the Eagles want to sign him permanently.
But West Ham should definitely consider this deal ahead of Palace. With both attacking and defensive ability, the England international is one for the future and he has already shown during his time at Selhurst Park that he is ready for Premier League football.
The 21-year-old has plenty of ability on the ball and his physical presence makes him a man mountain in the middle of the park. If West Ham are interested in building for the future, this signing could well be a big investment if Chelsea choose to play Barkley ahead of him.
