Rossi Won’t Be Going Back To United Anytime Soon

Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi has told Sky Italia that he would like to return to Serie A in the future. This pretty much quashes any hope United fans have of him one day returning to the club. Rossi said:

“I’m not tired of Spain, I am fine, but I’d like to someday return to my country, it’s my dream. I waited until the last minute for a call from an Italian club, but there was nothing concrete, just rumours.”

I, and plenty other United fans, have always hoped Rossi would rejoin United after he proved himself in Spain. When he was sold to Villarreal in 2007 a buy-back clause was put in place meaning United could bring Rossi back to Old Trafford for an agreed price. Why they signed this Bebe character when they could have brought Rossi back for a tad more is anyone’s guess.

I was rather disappointed when they let the Italian-American leave in the first place to be honest. Since joining Villarreal he’s done pretty well, scoring thirty three goals in ninety two games. He’s also got off the mark for Italy.

With Villarreal in financial trouble I’m gobsmacked that no one made a move for Rossi before the transfer window shut. Surely he’d have been available on the cheap. He could well have been steal of the summer.

So sadly it looks as if United are going to have to make do with unknown tramps and past it has-beens as back up for Berb and Rooney.
