With the January transfer window only days away 2 of the Premierships big guns are set to bid for Schalke and Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Arsene Wenger is allegedly looking for a top name goalkeeper after giving Manuel Almunia the green light to return to Spain.
Arsenal have long been searching for a top class ‘keeper to fill the void left by former incumbents Seaman and more recently Lehmann and it seems Wenger has decided that a top name replacement is needed to ensure that Arsenal remain in pole position after the New Year.
Neuer, 24, represents somewhat decent value at £12 million and has Champions League experience to boot. He has been constantly linked with a move to German giants Bayern Munich since his introduction to the Bundesliga in 2006 and was widely expected to make the move in the last transfer window.
Liverpool would represent more of a challenge for the 15 cap star, with the seemingly immovable object in Pepe Reina recently breaking Liverpool’s record for keeping the quickest 100 clean sheets in the clubs history. It would be a massive task for the youngster to dislodge the kop hero.
Manchester United have also allegedly been monitoring Neuers situation with interest but, after agreeing a deal to sign Anders Lindegaard from Norwegian side Aalesunds it would seem it is only a passing interest.
