Certainly, his name has wafted around North London in the past, most notably in 2008 before he eventually joined Lille in 2009 for €6million. However, Gervinho’s continued progression has reportedly rekindled interest throughout Europe.
Last season he was in bullish form; scoring 13 league goals and consistently acting like right little nuisance as he battled and bustled with defenders to establish himself as one of the best forward players in Ligue 1. This also earned him a place in Ivory Coast’s World Cup campaign, featuring in all three their games.
He possesses great versatility and can be effectively deployed in any attacking position; though most notably on the left-wing, a role he has often fulfilled, or as a striker. Nicknamed the ‘Brazilian Elephant’, Gervinho boasts strong dribbling ability, imposing speed and impressive technique in conjunction with physical prowess.
The 23-year-old was understood to be acutely keen on a move to the Gunners two years ago, but it never materialised.
