Total tosh or viable gossip? A look at whether these players could actually be on the move to their mooted destination, or if it’s just the red tops trying to pull the wool over our eyes once again.
AC Milan to PSG
Brazilian defender Silva has sparked interest from a host of European heavyweights, including Manchester City. But it’s the big spenders from Ligue 1 who have made the first move, with The Metro reporting that PSG have had a £37 million bid rejected. The Serie A champions are evidently reluctant to lose such a key player, but if that sort of money is topped even marginally, it’d be very hard to say no.
Barcelona to Manchester United
United are known to be in the market for a creative midfielder, and whilst their interest in Luka Modric remains very real, reports this week suggest that Barcelona starlet Thiago could prove a more viable option.
The Daily Mail claims the departure of mentor Pep Guardiola has forced the 21 year old to consider his future at the club, and that’s certainly no surprise with Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas sitting comfortably in front of him in the peaking order. Wouldn’t do much to appease fans baying for a big name arrival at Old Trafford, but does have undoubted potential.
Hoffenheim to Liverpool
This deal always looked likely after Brendan Rodgers flew the nest and left the Swans, and the BBC as well as numerous reports state the Icelandic playmaker could be set to move to Anfield as soon as next week.
Swansea will no doubt be reeling, as the collapse of the deal for their former loan star represents the ultimate double blow after the shock of losing their manager. The player himself possesses all the ingredients to be a Kop hero, and could very well be the first piece in the jigsaw as Rodgers strives to change the complexion of a side ravaged by the ineptitude of King Kenny.
Rennes to Arsenal
A Frenchman to Arsenal? Yeah, this one definitely could happen. And the good news for Gunners fans is player has already stated his desire to link up with Arsene Wenger.
After botching up last summer’s transfer window spectacularly Arsene Wenger seems to have learnt his lesson after acquiring Lukas Podolski and (pretty much) Olivier Giroud. That is of course, if a resolution is brought to the ever more frustrating speculation surrounding his captain Robin Van Persie.
Either way the signing of starlet Yann M’Vila would represent a huge triumph for the North Londoners. He’s young, technically gifted and most importantly would provide a back bone to the Arsenal midfield not seen for years now. His introduction would also allow a returning Jack Wilshere and the ever more impressive Alex Song to express themselves more freely, and could yet provide the cornerstone for a shock tilt at the title. Again, that would very much depend on a certain Dutchman.
