Liverpool fans are looking slightly worried with the latest reports emerging in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The Express report that Zenit St Petersburg could damage Liverpool’s chances of signing Basel’s Mohamed Salah by doubling the Reds’ current offer for the Egyptian international.
It had been earlier suggested in the tavern that the 21-year-old was on the brink of joining Reds, but his agent Sascha Empacher has stressed that a deal is yet to be completed with Basel.
Empacher said: “Talks with Liverpool are ongoing. They want him. But they need agreement with Basel.”
And this has reportedly seen Zenit swooping to steal the player away from the Merseyside giants.
Russian reports today indicate that Zenit have offered to double the offer currently on the table from Liverpool and that could see Basel selling to the higher bidder, irrespective of the player’s desire.
The only saving grace from Liverpool’s perspective is that Zenit retain some concerns about bringing in a player who is already cup tied in the Champions League following his impressive displays in the competition, including against Chelsea, earlier this season.
Liverpool supporters must now hope that this could see Zenit falling to follow up their interest in the very talented midfielder.
