Arsenal’s wantaway striker Robin van Persie is at the centre of an intense transfer battle between Manchester rivals United and City.
Dutch hitman van Persie, 28, is in the final year of his deal at the Emirates Stadium and has already told Arsene Wenger that he won’t be extending his deal.
Now Wenger has admitted that he may have to sell his prized asset, but bids from Manchester United, Juventus and Manchester City have been turned down, totalling £8m, £10m and £12m respectively.
With van Persie not travelling with the team on their tour to Asia, opening up the possibility of a move somewhere – just like Arsenal were forced to do with Samir Nasri last summer. Whilst City and United have already had bids rejected, which one should he join if it came to it?
City have just won the Premier League for the first time as Sheikh Mansour’s millions begin to cause ripples in across the world and now boss Roberto Mancini will be looking to strengthen his side as they look to retain the title and cement their place as England’s #1 side.
Goal scoring wasn’t a problem for his side as Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and later on Carlos Tevez all chipped in with goals to bring the title to Eastlands. At this stage in his career, van Persie has to be looking to win trophies after a barren spell with Arsenal, and at their current duration, City look like being the best bet.
But don’t count out United. Alex Ferguson’s side will be hurt after letting an 8 point lead at the summit slip and allow their ‘noisy neighbours’ in to take the title. He’s already moved to snap up Shinji Kagawa to ease the load on Wayne Rooney, but adding van Persie would create a fearsome duo to spearhead the attack. Can they cope with the financial clout of City though?
I do though think that City will outbid United for van Persie and the Dutchman will join up with his former teammates Nasri and Gael Clichy.
Right now it looks like a smart move as van Persie heads towards his 30’s, as City have the money – and firepower – to see off United for years to come.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
