The Man Utd fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were not expecting this…
For the Man Utd fans in the Tavern, Jesse Lingard’s rise to prominence under van Gaal and Mourinho has come as somewhat of a surprise, but when called upon this season – Lingard has really impressed.
But according to Ryan Giggs – he always knew Lingard would make it to the top.
The Man Utd legend has been speaking, via the Sun, about how he had to train the young English midfielder as part of the process of gaining his coaching badges. Surprisingly, Giggs described Lingard as a “nightmare” – but not in the way you might think!
He continued: “It was a nightmare because he did everything right. I had nothing to work with. He was an intelligent player even then.”
Wow! High praise from the Welsh Wizard. If the undisputed ‘King of the Wing’ thinks he is destined for big things then he definitely is!
Lingard made a career-high 25 league appearances last season under Louis van Gaal, as he began to cement his role within the Man Utd first team. This is a process that he has continued this season, having already made 3 appearances.
After originally doubting the quality of the young Englishman, the Man Utd fans are right on board – and are backing him for big things this season.
As a reward for his recent form, Lingard was recently given his first England cap by interim boss Gareth Southgate – a testament to how good he has been as of late.
