‘Sack that muppet’ – Southampton fans fume at Pellegrino after Liverpool defeat

Southampton’s hopes of remaining in the Premier League took a devastating blow this weekend as they lost 2-0 at home to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, and the resident Saints in the Transfer Tavern are far from happy with their precarious league position.

Mauricio Pellegrino’s side limped to their 11th defeat of the season yesterday against a solid Liverpool side who never looked like throwing away their advantage on the south-coast. Liverpool took the lead early on courtesy of Roberto Firmino’s left-footed finish after the Brazilian had been found by Mo Salah inside the 18-yard box.

The aforementioned players combined once again in the 42nd minute to double Liverpool’s advantage, as Firmino sensationally dissected Southampton’s statuesque defence with a sumptuous back-heel to find Salah unmarked inside the box, and the Egyptian made no mistake in stroking the ball home past a helpless Alex McCarthy.

Southampton huffed and puffed for the remainder of the match, but they failed to produce much by way of genuine goal-scoring opportunities, and if anything, they were lucky not to concede more in the second-half.

On the evidence of The Saints performance, the omens don’t look good in terms of their survival hopes, and unsurprisingly the supporters are becoming extremely concerned by their recent run of results and glaring lack of attacking inspiration throughout the team.

Plenty of the supporters believe that their manager Mauricio Pellegrino is fully responsible for their abject season so far, and they have taken to Twitter to call for his dismissal after their most recent performance.

Here’s what the supporters have had to say about Pellegrino on Twitter since their defeat against Liverpool…
