‘Sack the board’, ‘What a joke’ – West Ham fans furious with club for sanctioning deadline day deal

West Ham fans have been reasonably satisfied in the Transfer Tavern in recent times after seeing their side draw 1-1 at home to Crystal Palace on Tuesday night, a result which moved them into the top half of the Premier League prior to Wednesday’s matches.

David Moyes’ men were humbled by League One leaders Wigan Athletic in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday to end their participation in that competition, leaving the Hammers firmly focused on staving off relegation for the rest of the season. And they moved themselves a point closer to safety on Tuesday night, although they had to come from behind as Christian Benteke gave Roy Hodgson’s Eagles the lead midway through the first half, only for Mark Noble to equalise from the penalty spot just before half time.

Subsequently, there have been many satisfied Hammers in the Tavern in the last few hours, although they aren’t overly thrilled with their side’s transfer business so far this month, and indeed heading into the final few hours of the January transfer window.

And one man who has left the London Stadium on deadline day is versatile youngster Reece Oxford, who has officially rejoined German side Borussia Monchengladbach on loan for the remainder of the season having spent the first half of the campaign at the Bundesliga outfit.

The 19-year-old was recalled from an ultimately unsuccessful spell at the club by West Ham boss Moyes last month, but having made three senior appearances for the Hammers in the intervening time, the former Everton and Manchester United has sanctioned another loan deal for the defender.

Yet it’s a move which hasn’t gone down particularly well with West Ham fans on Twitter, many of whom are furious that the board have allowed such a deal given their current injury crisis…
