The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern would be forgiven for having to google the name Marcel Brands. The Dutchman is currently PSV Eindhoven’s director of football and has held the role for the last eight years. Although Everton are set to end his eight-year spell with the Dutch club as, according to Sky Sports, they look to make him their director of football to replace Steve Walsh in the summer.

The Everton fans propping our bar up are far from happy with the way their season is going. The Bluenoses came into the season with high hopes after spending over £200 million on players in the summer, although with the goals of Romelu Lukaku failing to be replaced and a number of high profile flops being prevalent at Goodison Park the club failed to live up to expectation. The Toffees watched on a Ronald Koeman was sacked and replaced by Sam Allardyce, to the dismay of all of those associated with the club.
The club now looks to be taking a step in the right direction though, as Marcel Brands is set to be appointed in the summer. Brands has been apart of PSV’s set-up since June 2010 and helped the club win the Dutch Cup in the 2011/12 season before also having a hand in the club’s back-to-back Eredivisie titles in 2014/15 and 2015/16. The club look set to give Brands a spectacular send-off too, as they’re currently seven points clear at the top of the Eredivisie with four games remaining. Brands will no doubt improve Everton, although the fans will be hoping he can bring Eindhoven manager, Phillip Cocu with him to Merseyside.
