Sadio Mane required surgery on latest injury

Liverpool will not have enjoyed watching some of their players during the latest international break, as they look to have received some untimely news.

There is always a risk that players could pick up injuries whilst on duty for their nations and it seems that it may have hit the Reds hard this particular month.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been playing extremely well in the Premier League so far, sitting level with Chelsea and Manchester City at the top of the table.

However, the German has seen a number of his key players pick up untimely knocks and will now be sweating about the fitness of one of his stars.

According to a report by the Liverpool Echo, Sadio Mane is thought to be in a race against the clock to be fit for their match against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

The Senegal international picked up a thumb injury and needed to go under the knife upon his return to Merseyside, and despite it being successful, there has been no timescale on when a return is likely.

The Verdict:

Liverpool will be sweating on the fitness of Mane ahead of the Huddersfield game, as he is a vital member of their team.

Mane is just one of a number of stars to have picked up a concern over the past couple of weeks, with Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk all picking up problems, whilst James Milner has also been on the sidelines.

However, Klopp’s side will have a number of suitable options available to cover the forward if he is unable to play, with the likes of Xhredan Shaqiri ready to step up and stake his claim for a regular first-team spot.
