Saints on the verge of completing a deal for Marlon Santos

Southampton fans will be delighted with the work that Mark Hughes has already managed to achieve this summer and will be looking ahead to the upcoming campaign.

The former Stoke City boss replaced Mauricio Pellegrino at towards the end of the Premier League season and only just succeeded in keeping the club in the top-flight.

The Welshman was rewarded with a long-term contract to remain at the St. Mary’s Stadium and he has already been active in trying to rebuild the squad and turn them into a more competitive side.

And, according to reports in Spain, it appears that Hughes is not quite finished with his transfer business just yet, as he looks set to bring a defender to the south coast.

According to Sport, the Saints are on the verge of tying up a deal for Barcelona defender Marlon Santos for a fee worth around €12million.

The media outlet have stated that the player has opted to join Southampton and will be unveiled by the club when they are ready to do so.

The Verdict:

Reports of signing Marlon had gone quiet for a while, however, if the latest ones are to be believed, then it appears the Barcelona man will be theirs in the near future.

The defender excelled during his loan spell with Nice last season and would certainly help to bolster the defence as Hughes looks to ensure that his team does not concede as many goals as they did last year.
