Over the summer, West Ham were one of the most active teams in the transfer window after bringing the likes of Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko to the London Stadium.

And when the market reopens next month, the east London club could find themselves in a similar position again with a move for one of Ligue 1's most in-form strikers reportedly being lined up.

The Breakdown

According to France Football (via Football.London), the Hammers are keen on adding Nantes' Emiliano Sala to their squad, though they face competition from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, Fulham and Cardiff City for the Argentinian's signature.

£12.6m-rated (Transfermarkt) Sala currently tops the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts alongside Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe with the duo having both found the back of the net on 12 occasions, putting into perspective how good the former has been this season.

That being said, assessing West Ham's squad, there are probably more pressing matters that need to be attended to before manager Manuel Pellegrini starts looking at new forwards.

Despite the arrivals of Jack Wilshere and Carlos Sanchez prior to the beginning of the campaign, Pellegrini's options in the middle of the park still look far from convincing, while full-back is also another area that could do with some refining.

On top of that, up front, the Hammers have Javier Hernandez, who has done a fantastic job filling in for first-choice No.9 Marko Arnautovic following the Austrian's recent injury.

All in all, West Ham would be better off investing their money elsewhere rather than on Sala.
