Mirko Vucinic is top of Blackburn Rovers’ wish list as their Indian owners push for a glamour transfer signing according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The 27 year old striker is a consistent performer and has been in good form this season for Roma with seven goals from 17 games so far in Serie A. There have been a number of clubs rumoured to be interested including Juventus and Man United but that hasn’t put Blackburn off.
The club has been punching above its weight in the transfer market since their Indian owners took over with audacious attempts to bring Ronaldinho and Beckham to the club proving unsuccessful. Whether the signing of Vucinic is a feasible one, however, looks doubtful.
The Montenegro international signed a four year extension on his contract in 2009 which included a gradual wage rise from €4m per annum in 2010 to €4.7m in 2013. It looks doubtful that Blackburn would be able to match this as well as the €20-25m transfer fee. To agree to a move Vucinic would most likely ask for an improvement on his current contract.
With Roma struggling this season in 9th and not guaranteed European football next season Blackburn would have no chance of clinching the star if a big club came in for him offering Champions League football.
It could be that the old cliché rings true that stranger things have happened but this looks like one transfer coup that has crossed the boundary of possibility. There are no guarantees that Blackburn’s owners are actually inclined to spend big as they were conservative in the January window and whilst they are by no means poor they aren’t billionaires.
If Blackburn to manage to get their man it would undoubtedly be one of the most unlikely transfers the Premier League has seen. Like your footie rumours and gossip? Add me on
