Newcastle United will be facing an anxious wait over the fitness of one of their main attacking options ahead of their fixture against Leicester City.
The Magpies will host the Foxes at St. James’ Park next weekend and Rafa Benitez will be looking for his side to improve on their draw with Crystal Palace.
The Venezuela international had to be taken off at half-time during their 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park on Saturday and Benitez has admitted his centre-forward will be a doubt for their upcoming Premier League match.
“Yes, he was feeling a little bit tight,” he said when asked if Rondon had to come off because of injury.
“No [it was not a precaution], he was not feeling well. It’s not a precaution, as he couldn’t continue. You could see that he was uncomfortable in the first half.
It’s too early [to say if he’ll be ready for Leicester]. He said that he was fine. He was feeling it [his quad] a little bit when he was shooting.”
Newcastle certainly need to improve when it comes to finding the back of the net in their fixtures and a possible absence for Rondon would come as a blow.
Although the Venezuelan has only managed three starts during his time at the Toon Army, he is an experienced player in the Premier League and is vital to the Magpies, considering the lack of options they have available.
Benitez will be hoping Rondon is not out for too long and the West Bromwich Albion loanee will be in contention to make a return to first-team action sooner rather than later.
