Everton are on the way up following a difficult start to the season under Ronald Koeman, with new boss Sam Allardyce turning the Toffees’ fortune around since his arrival at the club.
Everton fans are hoping that the former England and West Ham United boss will be given an opportunity this month to make his own mark on the squad in the transfer window, and continue to guide the club up the table in the coming months. A top-seven finish is a must after a year of big spending, and the club’s ambitions of a solid league return were boosted today, with Allardyce confirming via the club’s official Twitter feed that a deal has been agreed with Besiktas for striker Cenk Tosun, with personal terms being ironed out ahead of the move.
Allardyce revealed that he hoped to have the prolific Turkish international registered before Everton’s FA Cup tie with city rivals Liverpool, and a resounding roar and clink of glasses echoed around The Tavern as Toffees fans celebrated their first signing of the winter window.
Landlord’s Verdict: What a class signing this is by Sam Allardyce. Tosun has scored goals for fun in both the Turkish top-flight and in the Champions League, and Everton have pulled off a real coup by convincing the player to head to Goodison Park.
Tosun has turned down the opportunity to play in the Champions League knockout stages with the Turkish champions, and should he continue his excellent form in England, then the Toffees look good for that much sought-after top-seven finish. A quality signing, the Turk is yet another piece in this Everton puzzle that is coming together quite nicely under Allardyce.
Toffees fans, how happy are you with Tosun’s imminent signing? Let us know!
