Sam Allardyce lavishes praise on 5ft 8in attacker – report

Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern will be pleased with the victory they recorded against Newcastle United on Monday evening and will hope to build some momentum following the result.

The Goodison Park outfit have had a disappointing campaign and will look to finish it on a high, having had pre-season expectations of qualifying for the Europa League. Ronald Koeman was sacked following a poor start and Sam Allardyce was eventually named to replace him following a brief stint at the helm for David Unsworth, although Allardyce’s long-term future remains doubtful.

The former England boss brought in Theo Walcott in the January transfer window from Arsenal and the attacker has been in good form since arriving at Goodison Park. Walcott continued to impress in Everton blue by scoring the goal that gave his side all three points against the Magpies on Monday night, and his boss spoke of his appreciation for the quality of the England international following the result.

“Theo showed his quality again in the final third,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“His arrival has given us another dimension going forward. He offers a lot of pace and a lot of ability to go with that. He is on the way to proving for us he’s a big player for us.

“Theo’s got three goals now and (fellow January signing) Cenk Tosun’s got four. That shows we are better in the goal tally stakes than perhaps we were before the January window opened.”

Landlord’s Verdict

The Everton locals in the Tavern will be pleased that their two winter signings have improved their efforts in front of goal. The punters will be looking for Walcott to continue his impressive form for the final four matches and help himself to a World Cup spot with England in the process.
