Crystal Palace allowed a number of their players to head out on loan over the summer and it appears there could have been others to follow them.
It is understood that there was interest from teams in League Two for the youngster, however, the club decided that he would be better off developing at the Premier League outfit, which Richard Shaw, who is the Under-23 manager, confirmed.
“Sam [Woods] was one who could have gone out on loan, but the manager and I felt that he will develop being around the first team players here,” he told football.london.
“He has come on so much. There is work to do with him in terms of his power, and we have discussed that, and there are a few things he needs to iron out in terms of being a leader and getting him talking more, but he is on the right path and I am delighted.”
Woods is obviously highly-rated by the Eagles if they decided against loaning him out for the season.
With the decision having been taken by Shaw and Roy Hodgson, it looks as though the youngster could have a bright future for Palace in the future and they are keen to keep him at the club to watch him closely.
Woods has been named in a senior side squad this season, albeit a pre-season friendly against Oxford United in July, and was an unused substitute during their League Cup clash with Swansea City last month.
