Liverpool have, in recent weeks, been linked with all sorts of players, with speculation mounting over who’s coming in and who’s shipping out of Anfield in the summer, when Kenny Dalglish and Damien Comolli are expected to make some major changed to the Liverpool squad.
One of the key areas Dalglish is interested in improving is the left-side of his team, with left-back a particular priority. And so it is that we at the Tavern can bring you yet another left-back who is being strongly linked with a summer move to the Reds.
This time it’s Michal Kadlec of Bayer Leverkusen. ‘Who?!’ I hear you shout, well Kadlec is a Czech international with 17 caps who has played for Leverkusen, currently 2nd in the Bundesliga, since 2008. The 26-year-old left-back currently plays with former Liverpool hero Sami Hyppia in the Bayer defense and is open to the prospect of a lucrative move to the Premier League.
Roy Hodgson sent scouts to Leverkusen to watch Kadlec during his disastrous period in charge of the Reds and it is believed that Kenny Dalglish is following up his predecessor’s interest by having the Czech international scouted again.
Having finished 4th last season, Leverkusen currently lie in a Champions League spot, 2nd in the Bundesliga and Kadlec is believed to be waiting to see if the German side qualify for Europe’s top club competition before signing a new contract at BayArena. Speaking to isport.blesk.cz, Kadlec said,
“Will I extend it? It is too early for such thinking, but Leverkusen have announced that the clear objective of this season is to qualify for the Champions League.
“If we fail to get there, then they would probably be forced to sell some players.
“On the other hand, if we manage to qualify, the club would not be willing to release anyone.
“Anyway, to be connected with such a big club [Liverpool] flatters me. Who would not be tempted to play in the Premier League?”
So the Czech international appears keen on a move to Merseyside but it remains to be seen if Kenny Dalglish will follow up his reported interest with a bid for Kadlec. With other choices available such as Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre, former Anfield favourite John Arne Riise and Lyon’s Brazilian speedster Michel Bastos, Dalglish may choose to pursue other options over Leverkusen’s want-away left back.
