What a year it’s been for Giampaolo Pazzini! Since the Italian international swapped Fiorentina for Sampdoria he has proved a regular goalscorer and is now strongly tipped to make Italy’s World Cup squad despite previously falling down the pecking order for Fiorentina less than a year ago. And to top it all Pazzini has now been linked with moves to plenty of big teams including English trio Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Pazzini has formed one of the best attacking partnerships in Italy with former Roma man Antonio Cassano, who is also much sought after, and the Italian has gone from looking like missing out on his potential to becoming an international player who boasts a goal record of more than 1 in 2 in league competition for his current club. This has naturally alerted the big boys and Chelsea’s Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti is said to be the most keen to snap up Pazzini, even sending sporting director Frank Arnesen to check on him. Interest is also coming from most of Europe’s big clubs but English teams have been linked the most often.
The English giants’ hopes of signing Pazzini will have taken a blow though after Sampdoria’s sporting director Giuseppe Marotta declared to Sky Italia that
“Pazzini and Cassano away in January? No way, and also for the future, they remain important elements of our project.”
Marotta’s words have been echoed by the Sampdoria president so the English sides will have to put in serious offers to tempt the Italians to sell their prize asset.
