Manchester City are thought to be looking towards the summer transfer window already following the collapse of their title challenge, and news has reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern via Giscard Gourizro of Sky Sports, that the club are preparing a bid for a highly rated youngster from Sampdoria.
Spanish Under-21 international Pedro Obiang is a target for the Premier League champions according to reports emerging from Italy.
“I am being flattered by reports in the Italian press but nothing is done yet,” the 20-year-old told Sky Sports.
“I have a contract until 2016 and I do not think they want to sell me.
“I am settled here and I like the life but to be honest it is good to be linked with clubs going places like City where there are big stars and a very good coach who is a legend here at my present club.”
The 20-year-old midfielder has really impressed this season in the Italian top flight and has reportedly also caught the eye of Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester City hope to win the race for his signature, and hope the connections between their manager and Sampdoria will play a part.
Roberto Mancini played over 500 games for the Genoa-based club during an impressive 15-year-spell and will hope his strong ties with the Serie A side will influence where the player ends up.
