Maurizio Sarri hasn’t got an easy few weeks ahead of him. After being confirmed as Chelsea boss last week, the Italian must now turn his attention to a few very important matters.
Firstly, he’s got a pre-season trip to contend with, with Chelsea taking on Perth Glory on Monday in Australia. Thereafter, he’s got to continue an extensive set of dates to prepare his team for the new season. Then, not long after, he’ll quickly have to turn his attention to the return of the Premier League.
That’s without mentioning the transfer market, too. Sarri recently confirmed his desire to hang on to his best players, but now, it appears as though one man wants out.
Naturally, then, this will be the last thing that Maurizio Sarri will have been hoping to hear.
Willian, though a divisive player, is one of Chelsea’s best. He has impressed over the years with his fantastic energy, pace and quality in front of goal.
He’s been their saviour on many occasions during the course of the last few seasons, and he has the quality to force the Blues through games much like Eden Hazard with his dribbling, goalscoring and passing.
Losing him, then, would be a huge blow for the club. Granted, a large fee may be tempting for the club given his age, but Chelsea don’t really have enough time to replace him – and that’s a problem. The season starts in only a few weeks, after all.
Sarri is an attacking manager, and he needs the players to assert that vision. Losing Willian would be a terrible start, and Sarri will recognise that.
