Leicester City fans will be interested to hear that Schalke manager Andre Breitenreiter has confirmed that his club are trying to land Leicester midfielder Gokhan Inler on loan, according to the Leicester Mercury.
Inler was linked with a move to the German club in the summer when he became available at Serie A outfit Napoli, before he ultimately moved to the King Power Stadium.
However, since his arrival in England, the 31-year old has struggled to establish himself under Claudio Ranieri due to the good form of midfield counterparts Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante.
Inler recently hinted in an interview that a loan switch during the current window could potentially be on the cards as he needs game time in order to prepare his efforts with Switzerland in next year’s European championships.
However, with rumours in recent weeks linking several clubs with the midfield veteran, Breitenreiter has reportedly told German media that a switch to Schalke is not close.
“I don’t think it’s a financial problem. The player has shown interest, but he’s not here yet. It raises the question whether he wants to join FC Schalke 04 by all means.”
