‘Scores when he wants’, ‘Bring him home’ – Tottenham fans on Twitter want to see flop return

The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have taken to Twitter this morning to see that Spurs Official on Twitter has sent out a happy birthday message to the club’s out-of-favour forward, Vincent Janssen. The Dutchman spent last season out on-loan at Fenerbahce and the fans are calling for him to have one more shot in the first team next season.

The 24-year-old striker signed for Spurs in the summer of 2016 after top scoring in the Eredivisie the season before. The fans expected a lot from the young striker as he came in to be the man to deputise for Harry Kane when the England captain was injured or suspended, however, Janssen could only manage a meagre six goals and four assists in his 38 appearances for the club in all competitions, drawing himself comparisons to Roberto Soldado.

This season has seen him take on a new challenge on-loan in the form of the Turkish Super Lig with Fenerbahce, although he failed to leave a lasting impact in Istanbul as an ankle fracture saw him miss over half of the league season through injury. He did score four goals in his 16 league appearances, which is a modest return for a young forward low on confidence whos yet to adapt to the league.
