Scouts have watched him: Man Utd target £10.8m-rated midfielder as Mourinho plans overhaul

For the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern, the summer transfer window is the highlight of the season. The Red Devils have spent big over the last few years as Jose Mourinho bids to turn his faltering team around – with big names like Romelu Lukaku moving to Old Trafford.

Certainly, with Man Utd now spending freely on a regular basis, it’s always intriguing to see what the club are going to do next, and according to the Mirror, plans and moves are already being made to get the summer window off to a flyer.

The Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils have joined the summer race for Watford midfield Abdoulaye Doucoure – having sent a scout to watch the 25-year-old in action against West Brom over the weekend.

Doucoure has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive breakout stars this term, having emerged as Watford’s most important player.

A unit in the midfield, the Frenchman offers fantastic dynamism in the middle of the park, whilst he also provides a fantastic balance between defence and attack.

He’s rated at £10.8 million by Transfer Markt, and it’s fair to say that he would add a real midfield presence were Man Utd to land him. Watford won’t be keen to sell, though, of course.

Landlord’s Verdict

Though not a world-renowned star in the ilk of a Paul Pogba or a Romelu Lukaku, Doucoure is certainly good enough to step up into the Theatre of Dreams.

Watford have been a mixed bag this term, but he has been the one shining light. Man Utd’s midfield is a weak spot within the team, and he’d be a perfect fit – if they can land him. That won’t be easy, though.
