‘Screw other targets’ – Liverpool fans on Twitter desperate for club to sign World Cup star

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been calling for their side to sign Russia’s 27-year-old star, Denis Cheryshev. The winger came off the bench in Russia’s World Cup opening game against Saudi Arabia when Alan Dzagoev limped off with a hamstring issue. The Villarreal star showed why he should have started when he scored two fabulous goals, leaving Liverpool fans pining for the star’s signature.

This isn’t the first time that Liverpool fans have called for their club to loosen their purse strings and sign the Russian. Back in 2016, the Reds made a move for the winger when he was at Real Madrid, however, they weren’t able to secure the livewire and he went on-loan to Valencia instead. Now, the 27-year-old is a Villarreal player and has been since summer 2016 when he made the move from the Bernabeu to the Estadio de la Cerámica, where he’s played 90 games and contributed 11 goals and 15 assists.

This summer could see the Russian star make the next move in his career, as he looks like he’ll be coming out of the World Cup with a number of suitors. Cheryshev’s two goals against Saudi Arabia will have turned the heads of a number of clubs throughout Europe and with Liverpool looking to bolster their attacking line with depth, he could be the perfect option to replace the likes of Sadio Mane after 70 minutes of a tough Premier League away fixture.
