One Newcastle United player looks to be sticking around at St. James’ Park after he was told he could not go on loan.
The midfielder would have been expecting to have spent time away from the Magpies on loan this season as he looks to continue his development, however, the Spaniard obviously has different plans for him.
It is understood that the academy graduate has the best chance of breaking into the first-team and Benitez is keen for him to work with the senior side and could consider the 20-year-old in the near future after an impressive pre-season campaign.
“I have had a conversation with some of them and told them it is better to be around. The experience to be close to the first team now could be really good for them,” he told the Newcastle Chronicle.
“They will have time to go out and play in another division we can do it in January. I have had a conversation with Sean Longstaff and told him it’s good for him to stay around.
“He is learning from Shelvey and Diame. He is learning from players who have quality and experience.”
Benitez obviously rates Longstaff highly and the young midfielder could be given his opportunity to feature for the first-team soon.
The 20-year-old may not get as many games as he would have hoped for this season, especially if he had headed out on loan to a lower division outfit, however, the potential benefits from sticking around St. James’ Park could outweigh it.
Learning from Shelvey and Diame will also only help to improve his game and he will definitely be one to keep a close eye on in the future.
