Securing deal for £72m-rated star is more important than Naby Keita’s arrival at Liverpool

The Liverpool fans are feeling excited in the Transfer Tavern ahead of Naby Keita’s arrival in the summer, but there is reason to suggest that his transfer may not be the most crucial piece of business the club will conclude in 2018.

The anticipation for Keita’s arrival has been building in the tavern since Liverpool confirmed that he would be making the switch from RB Leipzig to Merseyside last summer. The Liverpool supporters have been taking a keen interest in his form in the Bundesliga this season, and they have been mightily impressed by what they have seen from the Guinea international so far. Providing he can successfully transfer his form in Germany into the Premier League, then it seems certain that Klopp will be welcoming a player of raw quality to Anfield next summer.

Keita’s arrival is undoubtedly the single-most exciting summer prospect for Liverpool at the moment, but reports emerging from The Daily Mirror suggest their biggest news of the summer could be on the horizon. The report claims that Mo Salah (valued at £72 million by Transfermarkt) is set to snub interest from Real Madrid and put pen to paper on a new deal which will see his weekly wage rise to £200,00.

The extent of Salah’s success this season has been widely documented throughout Europe, so interest from rival clubs across the continent is bound to be prevalent as the campaign moves into its final stages. Whether there is any truth in the rumours which link Real Madrid to Salah remains to be seen, but considering the notorious ‘BBC’ era appears to be moving towards its natural ending, it seems incredibly likely that Los Blancos will make a bid for the Egyptian’s services this summer.

Naturally, it is difficult to persuade a player to snub a move to a club of Real Madrid’s prestige, but it’s something Liverpool simply have to do if they wish to challenge for the title next season. Salah’s performances have been integral to Liverpool’s success so far this season, and it’s fair to say they would be struggling for a place in the top-four without him.

His importance to the club cannot be expressed highly enough, so if Jurgen Klopp wants to take his side to the next level next season then he simply has to convince Salah to stay at Anfield next season by offering him a lucrative contract extension. Keita’s imminent arrival is certainly something the Liverpool fans should be looking forward to, but it will be hugely overshadowed if the club lose their talismanic top-goalscorer in the summer.
